GREEN SKY MOVEMENT

100,000 Homes out of Darkness

150,000,000 kg of CO2 Eliminated

Miles away from such basic necessities as running water and electricity, the country of Benin, West Africa needs your help to improve the quality of life for their residents. Imagine daily life without your cell phone. Or your refrigerator. Or watching television. Or listening to the radio. Or even the absence of even one light bulb in your home. Now you can understand how challenging life is for the residents of Benin who had no access to such a basic human necessity as electricity – until now. You can help make a difference and light up Benin.

While working on the ground in rural villages we have had the opportunity to meet Kristin Strong, a Peace Corps Volunteer. Her story moved us and is our inspiration for Green Sky Movement. Here is a story she told us.

“Imagine your newborn smoking...?

Working as a Peace Corp volunteer living in rural Benin, West Africa has opened my eyes up to things unimaginable. I live in Lahotan, a remote village that rests several kilometers away from running water and electricity. I help out at my health center a lot. During the first few months in village I witnessed my first birth. It went on late into the night. The sources of light used by the midwife were kerosene lamps. Several of these lamps were spread throughout the room. Smoke emitted by these lamps contains high amounts of black carbon polluting our environment and causing severe health risks. The first thing this newborn breathed in, was the smoke produced from these harmful kerosene lamps. I imagine the future of that newborn. Like any other child in the village, she would also one day be studying by kerosene lamps. But it doesn’t end there….Mothers in Lahotan do household chores at dawn using these same kerosene lamps while watching after children. The black carbon emitted by kerosene lamps affects everyone; children, adults, and our environment. This is happening in villages all throughout Benin and Africa.”

Green Sky Fund

We need your support to raise $50,000 to launch our Green Sky Fund. The fund pays for home solar electricity systems to be produced, distributed, and installed. We aim to reach families throughout all of Africa. Majority of Beninese have incomes that allow them to repay the production cost of their solar system. The repayment of the first 100 units installed will fund the production of 100 more units, which will then go to 100 new households and the system will keep on giving. This is not a one-time project; your donation will constantly have an impact on improving family’s lives from year to year.

We have the right technology.

We have affordable financing.

We have Solar Technicians.

With your support we will succeed.

We would like to send a special thank you to everyone that contributed to our Green Sky Campaign. We were able to raise over $1000 to be able to start our Green Sky Fund and bring solar energy to all!
